Don’t believe the megapixel myth
I’m glad to see manufacturers are starting to see sense here, with many high-end cameras now sporting comparatively modest pixel counts. At the lower end, however, some manufacturers continue to cram 16 megapixels and more on tiny sensors that can’t cope with high levels of incoming light. Pay for quality, not quantity, remembering that as few as 10 megapixels is plenty for printing at A3 using online photo-printing services. Remember you aren’t going to be printing a billboard.
Resizing a photograph the right way
And while were talking about sizing you photographs remember when you want to increase the size of your photo in photoshop use the 110% method. Here’s how you do it.
1. Go to image size in photoshop
2. The top 2 boxes say dimension in pixels-change this to percent and type in 110. This will only increate your photograph by 110%. It kind of fools the program.
3. Repeat this step little by little until you get close to the size you want.
This gradual process allows you to increase the size of your photo without loosing quality. Of course is you have an image that is of very low resolution this will not work. But to increase an image at 300 dpi from for example: 5 x 7 to a 11 x 17 this will work very well.
