It’s bluebonnet season here is Texas. This year is a bumper crop from the fall rains. Flowers are wonderful subject matter but you will need a few hints to get great photos of these small wonders.

  • get in close to show better detail
  • shoot photos in mid morning or just before sunset for best light
  • try different viewpoints, including lying on the ground or standing above the flower.
  • avoid taking photos from the same spot
  • if shooting in manual mode, use a larger aperture or small f-stop number, to narrow the depth of field.
  • use a low ISO (100 or 200) for a “noise-free” outdoor photo
